Frank Worrell drums (12K)
WELCOME BACK!
Frank's sabbatical in California is complete and he is again accepting new students. Ring him at 919.619.3101 or email gnargnar@mac.com for details.

CMS is proud to once again have Frank Worrell as a member of our percussion department. With 42 years of performing experience and 27 years of service as an educator, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the Carrboro Music Studios program.

A graduate of Guilford College, Frank also attended Berklee College of Music. He went on to study and perform with acclaimed jazz musician Jack DeJohnette and with Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelos at Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, NY and was a private student of world-renowned master instructor Alan Dawson in Boston, MA. While an adjunct member of the music faculty at UNC-Greensboro, Frank became percussionist for the faculty jazz quintet. He has performed in groups led by Grammy Award-winners Wynton Marsalis and Diane Schuur, and with accomplished guitarists Scott Sawyer and Randy Johnston.

Described on the Yamaha Drums website (click on "Bio") as the area's "drum guru", Frank considers his role as mentor a sacred trust. Worrell explains:
"As an elder with a youthful spirit, (I began surfing in Santa Cruz, California at age 50!) I guide my students responsibly, with a light heart and an open mind. My studio provides a safe space where students are accepted and valued for who they are; a space where learning to play an instrument is fun and where that process is tailored to the needs of each individual."
He adds that his philosophy is best revealed in a quote from Shunryu Suzuki's classic text, Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind:"...to express yourself freely as you are is the most important thing to make yourself happy, and to make others happy."

Django Haskins, Esquire acoustic (7K)

Django graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in English and even worked in China before moving to NYC. He spent the better part of a decade playing professionally in NYC before moving to Chapel Hill a few years ago and he's been at the center of the local scene ever since.

Described variously as "a cross between Elvis Costello and Tom Petty," "a pop stylist, with a quick lyrical wit and a card shark's finesse in delivering a hook" and "Norman Rockwell with a Telecaster," Chapel Hill, NC based songwriter Django Haskins makes mongrel American music. Django has recorded with producers Don Fleming (Sonic Youth, Pete Yorn) and John Plymale (Squirrel Nut Zippers), has had his music featured on MTV's 'Real World' and WB's 'Felicity', and received rave reviews in Billboard, CMJ, and many other publications, but it's in the live shows where the music really comes alive, thanks to good old-fashioned showmanship and grit. Django is now touring both solo and with his band, The Old Ceremony.

Django specializes in teaching rock, blues, and funk guitar, both electric and acoustic, as well as songwriting and composition. He teaches on Mondays and Wednesdays. Learn more about him at www.djangohaskins.com
