Frank Worrell
WELCOME BACK!
Frank's sabbatical in California is complete and he is again accepting new students. Ring him at 919.619.3101 or email gnargnar@mac.com for details.
CMS is proud to once again have Frank Worrell as a member of our percussion department. With 42 years of performing experience and 27 years of service as
an educator, he brings a wealth of knowledge to the Carrboro Music Studios program.
A graduate of Guilford College, Frank also attended Berklee College of Music. He went on to study and perform with acclaimed jazz musician Jack DeJohnette and with Brazilian
percussionist Nana Vasconcelos at Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, NY and was a private student of world-renowned master instructor Alan Dawson in Boston, MA. While an adjunct member of the
music faculty at UNC-Greensboro, Frank became percussionist for the faculty jazz quintet. He has performed in groups led by Grammy Award-winners Wynton Marsalis and Diane Schuur, and with accomplished guitarists
Scott Sawyer and Randy Johnston.
Described on the Yamaha Drums website (click on "Bio") as the area's "drum guru",
Frank considers his role as mentor a sacred trust. Worrell explains:
"As an elder with a youthful spirit, (I began surfing in Santa Cruz, California at age 50!) I guide my students responsibly, with a light heart and an open mind. My studio provides a safe space where students are accepted and valued
for who they are; a space where learning to play an instrument is fun and where that process is tailored to the needs of each individual."
He adds that his philosophy is best revealed in a quote from Shunryu Suzuki's classic text, Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind:"...to express yourself freely as you are is the
most important thing to make yourself happy, and to make others happy."
Eric Haugen
Eric is the lead guitarist and co-songwriter of local retro-rockers Fake Swedish and leads another outfit "On Three". He shares his knowledge of classic rock guitar with his students five days a week. A Beatles fanatic, he encourages his students to use their instincts and creativity to develop their own style.
Always ready to hear a good joke, he believes that with a positive attitude and good work ethic, any personal goal can be accomplished. His lessons are challenging but fun at the same time.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Eric is fluent in a variety of styles ( rock, punk, blues, country, folk, soul, gospel, etc. ). He teaches students of all ages; from 6 to 60.
He plays lead guitar with The Strugglers, Fake Swedish, and The Physics of Meaning.
Eric Haugen teaches rock guitar and bass at CMS Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
